BCNHS to pilot iDEP

To cater to students who cannot attend formal schooling due to distance, disability, and other valid circumstances, Baguio City National High School will pilot this School Year 2009-2010 the Drop-out Reduction Program’s Internet-Based Distance Education Program.

This was disclosed by Ms. Prudencia Sanoy, DORP Team Leader, in a 10-day seminar-workshop on developing ICT-Based Interactive Learning Resources for Technology and Livelihood Education (T.L.E.) and Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health (M.A.P.E.H.) which was held in Summer Place Hotel and BCNHS last May 4-13, 2009.

According to the DORP Team Leader, iDEP is a new mode of delivery under the Open High School Program (OHSP), a program that allows part/full time workers, dropouts, parents, and others to complete their Secondary Schooling through take-home modules.

In its pilot implementation, schools will cater only to First Year students.

BCNHS was selected as one of the five pilot schools accross the country that include Makati City National High School, Olongapo City National High School, Florencio Urot National High School (Cebu City), and Davao City National High School.

As one of the implementers of the program, BCNHS is considered an iDEC (Internet-Based Distance Education Center).

Essential in the initial implementation of the iDEP is the development of Interactive Modules for all First Year subjects. The development of digitized interactive modules for Filipino, Araling Panlipunan, and Values Education was held in Cebu last May  18-26 while the Interactive ICT-Based Learning Resources for English, Science and Mathematics is currently being held in Waterfront Insular Hotel, Davao City from June 8-17.
