BCNHS Main Holds 93rd Commencement Exercises

1,415 Fourth Year students graduated today in Baguio City National High School Main’s 93rd Commencement Exercises with the theme: Your Gift of Learning, Our Tool for Nation Building.

Comprising majority of the graduates were 1102 students of the Regular program. 313 graduated from the other programs namely: Special Science Program (120), Special Program in the Arts (90), Special Program for Sports (69), and Open High School Program (34).

The guest speakers in the said programs, which were conducted in two batches: morning and afternoon, were BCNHS alumni Atty. Janice Marie N. Domogan and Ms. Michelle Ailah P. Pablo, respectively.

AP Teacher Wins in International Contest

Competing against the most innovative teachers in the Asia Pacific Region, an Araling Panlipunan teacher of Baguio City National High School has won first runner up in Microsoft’s Regional Innovative Education Forum held last March 20-22, 2012 in Auckland, New Zealand.

Mr. Estelito B. Mendoza won in the Innovation in Collaborative Learning Category of the event with his project entitled Learning Beyond the Classroom and Making a Difference. He competed against 63 educators from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, New Zealand, and Australia.

BCNHS Tops National Innovative Teacher Award Anew

For the fifth time in seven years, a Baguio City National High School teacher has been chosen as one of the coutry’s top 3 teachers in Microsoft Philippines’ annual Innovative Teachers Leadership Awards (ITLA).

Estelito Mendoza, an Araling Panlipunan teacher, won the award during Microsoft’s Teach Tech: The 2012 Microsoft Philippines Education Summit held in Dusit Thani Hotel, Makati last March 2, 2012.

Mendoza topped the Extending Learning Beyond the Classroom category with his project entitled Learning Beyond the Classroom and Making a Difference. Together with the winners from the other two categories: Collaboration through ICT and Innovation in Challenging Contexts, he will be presenting the said project in Microsoft’s Asia-Pacific Regional Innovative Education Forum in Auckland, New Zealand this March 19-25, 2012.

Mendoza became the fifth BCNHS teacher to win the award and represent the country abroad. Previous winners from BCNHS have already represented the country in Cambodia, Singapore, Thailand, Finland, and South Africa.

BCNHS Celebrates Panagbenga 2012

In line with the celebration of the Panagbenga Festival, a series of competitions namely team painting, flower arrangement, and fruit and vegetable arrangement were held at Baguio City National High School.

Team painting was held last February 17, 2012. There were two categories for this event, the SPA category and regular-SPS category. As for the SPA category, the team of Nicole Blazo, Zianchee Degay, Kai Piluden won the 1st place; Thelma Suyam, Paulene Cuinto, Hiromi Kiswa won 2nd place; and Alberto Daus Jr., Mary Loudeth Revilla, Junziel Macaraeg won 3rd place. For the regular-SPS category, Winona Siari Opalec, Jamaela Cancio, Jesa Mae Lleva won first place; Dexter Amaki, Enrico Luciopao, Dimple Alsino won second place; and Jessie Malasag, Ervin Fernandez, Jemar Patnao won 3rd place.

Flower arrangement competitions were held last February 24, 2012 and were categorized into two events namely fresh flower arrangement and dry flower arrangement. Each event was further subcategorized into two– the teacher and student category.

In the teacher’s category of the fresh flower arrangement event, Mrs. Shielac Garlego from San Vicente Annex won first place, Mrs. Zobel Epler from the main won 2nd place and Mrs. Gina Rimando from Roxas Annex won 3rd place. In the student’s category, Venica Collantes from Bakakeng Annex won 1st place; Kate Marie Corpuz from Rizal Annex won 2nd place; and Jordan Malani from Bakakeng Annex won 3rd place.

As for the teacher’s category of dry flower arrangement, Mrs. Wilma Tadjie from the main won 1st place; Mrs. Imelda Espejo from Rizal Annex won 2nd place; and Jordan Malani from Bakakeng Annex won 3rd place. In the student’s category of dry flower arrangement, Ethel Joy Gatchalian from the main won 1st place, Kate Marie Corpuz from Rizal Annex won 2nd place and Jordan Malani from Bakakeng Annex won 3rd place.

Fruit and vegetables arrangement was also categorized into teacher’s and student’s category. In the teacher’s category, Mary Jane Malihod from the main won 1st place; Petra Tumapang from the main won 2nd place; and Imelda Espejo from Rizal Annex won 3rd place. In the student’s category, Brenda Louise Alaryan from Bakakeng annex won 1st place; Winifred Baenbeng from Rizal annex won 2nd place; and Beverly Caranay from the main won 3rd place.

accomplishments after bringing home numerous recognitions during the
University of the Philippines (UP) 17th Annual Bannuar Debate Tournament
and the 5th Northern Luzon ISKOlar’s Cup held at UP Baguio from February
11-13, 2011.

Landing first place for the UP Bannuar Scholastic Pentathlon were Jynariz
Datuin, Giselle Santos and Reinier Tom. Coming in second place were Lorenzo
Espejo, Andra Garcia, and Ed Manalac. Placing third were Angelo Rillera,
Chinn Chan, and Jerrold Javier. Also bagging first place in the UP Bannuar
Contemporary Amianan Music Competition were the fourth year Special Science
Program (SSP) students. Also championing in the UP Bannuar Essay-Writing
Competition was Meghan Dado, followed by Kimberly Garcia who got second
place and or the Poster-Making Competition, Darren Acosta had snatched the
silver.

Moreover, City High had also emerged victorious for the Debate Tournament.
Miguel Leung, Erlyne Sibayan, and Leah Bornilla had been named champions
for the Oregon-Oxford Debate Format whereas the team consisting of Roandrei
Marinas, Erielle Sibayan, and Jao Ruiz had landed second for the Asian
Parliamentary debate format.

BCNHS Students Top Regional STEP 2012

Baguio City National High School students emerged as winners in the different competitions during the 10th STEP Regional Skills Development and Competition held at Tublay School of Home Industries,Tublay, Benguet last January 6-8, 2012.

Fourth year Special Science Program Team (Miguel Leung, Kelby Uy, Leah Bornilla, Kimberly Garcia and Giselle Santos) and Renver Muller from Rizal Annex both garnered 1st place in Business Planning and Residential Wiring Installation, respectively while Noel D. Maggac of the Open High School, Denis Diclihon of III-Heroism and John Carlo Tagata of IV Prestige garnered 2nd place in Engine Tune-up, Steel Baluster and Electronic Poster Making, respectively. Likewise, Hasmin Managdag of Bakakeng Annex garnered 3rd place in Electronic Bookkeeping.

The winners of the Regional STEP qualify in the STEP National Competitions.
